Most of the time I prefer to march to a different drummer than the average person. This has been most noticeable in recent years with my fervent clinging to the keyboard of my BlackBerry in lieu of getting a fully touch-screen phone. Unfortunately for those of us not interested in the iPhone or an Android-based OS, we get left out of a lot of developmental things that could enhance our business. A few things are: swipe pay-by-phone programs, salon software, and Instagram.

In order to keep my business up to date, my phone choice is now dictated by what will run available apps instead of the features I would personally like to have in a phone. While frustrating, it's kind of one of those "just smile and deal" type things. I'm not the reluctant owner of an iPhone and need some help deciding what's needed to optimize it for business purposes. To start out, I have gotten on board with Instagram (check out my profile here) and loaded some photos.

Now I need to figure out the best way to get my appointment book off paper and into the digital age I guess, lol. As a booth renter only in the salon four to six days a month, I'd like to get by with a simple, free salon program that has text reminders for appointments. What are you using? When I try to Google and research, what comes up instead of software is a bunch of salon mobile app information. The pages suggest that the current trend is developing a salon app. Have any of you done this? And what is it costing you to run monthly?

Reopening? Know Your Numbers

For those of you that like a little data with your info, here is some really interesting information from salon owner Michele Baker in Georgia. Being one of the first states to open left the salon owners to scramble to learn a lot of things on their own and many have been generous in sharing things they have figured out to help make operating in the COVID-19 world more systematic and understandable.
