How do you like to receive education these days? Do you like to go to a class nearby or look things up on YouTube? Do you think everything you see on YouTube is accurate? There are so many ways to learn these days and the costs vary so much; you can spend $400 on a one-on-one online class or on an in-person group class. You can travel here or there to resorts and retreats and get your class by land or by sea. At the end of the day, what appeals to you?
For me, I like a sense of adventure with my class. I don’t mind a bit of travel. Seeing new places and meeting new faces is a great way to expand my knowledge of nails and life in general, in addition to giving my clients unique bragging rights. There is also something to be said for supporting local classes. It feels good to walk into a class of peers who understand your demographic and have similar questions and troubleshooting concerns.
You will find some questions and troubleshooting issues are the same no matter where you go, like late clients and not feeling like you can charge what you’re worth. Some issues are easier to troubleshoot with locals though, such as dealing with intense humidity in places like Orlando, bitter cold in, say, Bismarck, asphalt-melting heat in some parts of the country, and interesting elevation in the upper mountains.
I have a discussion going with a friend outside the industry who has watched some of the swag bag posts over the years and developed the opinion that people only go to classes for free stuff. My argument is that people would gladly go to classes and bring their own stuff. So this blog has a split personality in a way, it’s looking to learn what your learning preferences are these days and if you are in it to learn or if the free stuff is a deal-breaker!
