Are there natural alternatives out there for cleaning and disinfecting the whirlpool spa chair that are effective?

May 30, 2006

When it comes to cleaning and disinfecting the whirlpool footspa basin and pipes, an EPA-registered disinfectant with demonstrated bactericidal, fungicidal, and virucidal activity must be used. I often hear concerns about the strong smell of the disinfectant, but I am not aware of any disinfectants that meet the requirements and also have a better or less harsh smell.

When cleaning the other parts of the chair and other areas in the salon, I can recommend a brand of cleaning products found at Target called “Method.” These are cleaning products — not disinfecting products. Method products contain no harsh chemicals and are biodegradable and non-toxic. The containers are made of recyclable materials. The products clean very well and smell great. — Marianne Light is the owner of Salon Compliance Consulting in Fullerton, Calif.
