Can we eliminate all the layers of gel and lay a thin overlay of acrylic, seal it with Intense Seal and call it gel nails?

February 21, 2007

As far as eliminating all of the layers of gel, laying a thin overlay of acrylic and sealing it with Intense Seal to create gel nails, you’d have to ask yourself the following questions about your client: 1) Is she hard on her nails, meaning could she use a thicker coat? 2) Is she wearing tips where you need to fill the seam? 3) Does she have natural nails that need only a little extra strength? For a “yes” response to questions 1 or 2, I’d add two coats of the base before applying Intense Seal; for question 3, one coat should do.

In general, you can add Intense Seal to any gel or acrylic appliction as the final seal. Market it as a finishing service that brightens a French look and increases wear by blocking sunrays and cleansers. — Dennise Mason is brand manager for IBD.

Is it true that gels thin out a client’s nails?

I have so many nail clients who say gel nails thin out their nails. Is this true? When I do a fill, I don’t get right down to their natural nail, unless it has lifted. I always leave as much of the gel on their nail as I can, to protect their natural nail. So, can you tell me, if in fact gel nails thin out their natural nails?... read more
