Do you have any suggestions about what to do about baggy, low cover-ups?

April 1, 2008

Sleek tailoring is definitely the most profession-appropriate and flattering choice for every body-shape. This is especially true for anyone in the petite range (a woman under 5’6” or so). A short physique can easily get lost in an oversized top, because the proportions may be wrong for you. Without proper tailoring at the shoulder, armhole, sleeve, and waistline, a baggy top can make you look pounds heavier and even shorter than you actually are.

While you don’t want to go with anything too tight, do wear a high-quality, smoothly fitted jacket that gently follows and defines your body contours, ideally hip-length. If the rest of the team is wearing a longer jacket, ask management if yours may be slightly modified to fit you better and elongate your silhouette. You’ll make a better impression upon guests and clients, and feel great about how you look as well.

In fact, I am such a believer in the power of appearance, especially in fine tailoring, that our brand recently began offering our chic uniform jackets in maternity sizes, so we can look and feel our best at every size!
