Enhancements Are Not Recommended for Clients with Fragile Nails

March 1, 2002

I have a client with soft, thin, fragile nails. How can I help her and what kind of services can I do?

Tanis Darling: I would definitely recommend against enhancements. At some point in our careers we need to make responsible judgements. The decision whether or not to “nail” someone is an important thing to teach to all newbies and to reinforce to professionals as they update their education. In this case I am assuming the nails are extremely thin and fragile. In my opinion, no enhancement services should be performed as they would be too heavy no matter what type of product was used.

You and the client need to make a joint commitment to natural nail services. You need to do research on her behalf to find the natural nail treatment that is most appropriate for her. Take into account her allergies, budget, time constraints, medical conditions, and, of course, her lifestyle to determine what will best suit her goals. Be realistic and honest with her—you cannot change genetics, but you can help her to achieve a healthier, more groomed appearance.
