How do I get started servicing senior communities?

November 7, 2012

Before starting a mobile nail business find out if you can operate a mobile nail business in your state from the cosmetology board. After you have that information, then contact the human resources manager at the senior residence.
Make sure you have all your marketing information ready when you meet. You will want to hold a mini-meeting with all the residents and be able to tell them about the services you will be offering. This is usually easily done when the facility has its monthly meetings with the seniors. From my experience, I don’t recommend just leaving your information with the manager — you need to be able to see and talk to the residents.

Be efficient with your time when you are servicing clients in the senior community. Offer your services on a certain day every week or once a month. You don’t want to be running back and forth to the same location when you could schedule all the appointments on one day. You can also offer a discount when you are servicing a lot of people in one location — a win-win for everyone.

A basic list to get you started would be:

> business cards and marketing material

> mobile cart (for your supplies)

> disposable nail files

> uniform
