How exactly are silk wraps done, and are they only applied to natural nails?

February 1, 2007

Silk can be used as an overlay if the client comes in with thin or damaged nails. In this case, use it prior to tip application to create a stronger base for the tip.

The most important thing to remember when considering silk is its tensile strength is less than that of fiberglass, so it’s recommended for active length nail enhancements. Contact your system manufacturer for complete instructions on your particular wrap system, but essentially you’ll be prepping the nails, applying the resin, activator, and silk strips, finishing the nail surface, and performing regular maintenance on your clients’ wraps. — Gail Crawford is national education manager for Backscratchers Salon Systems.
