This pattern of one foot involvement is not all that uncommon. I have no explanation for this (nor does anyone else, as far as I know). It is curious, but it happens. Usually the foot with the toenail fungus has athlete’s foot, and the one with normal nails does not have athlete’s foot (both are caused by the same fungus). -- Phoebe Rich, M.D.
