If you could do anyone’s nails, who would you choose?

April 18, 2010

Editor’s Note: We received so many fun responses to this month’s question that we decided to expand Reader to Reader this month.

Dennis Rodman. Not only can such a boisterous person pull off some outrageous nails, but we could even do wild body airbrushing on him. And his toenails would have to look just as crazy. From head to toe, he’s a canvas screaming to be painted.

Erin Jones, Reno, Nev.

I would love to get my hands on Oprah Winfrey’s. For someone who has received so much publicity regarding her appearance, hasn’t anyone ever taken her aside and suggested she at least wear polish? Her hands are in full view of millions of people, yet she does nothing with her nails. It’s definitely time to complete her look.

Shari Perelmuter, W. Acton, Mass

I choose Rosie O’Donnell because she’s a great person and a hilarious entertainer. One day she showed her audience a set of instructions she had been given to help her manicure last, and she joked about how she picked off the polish after three hours. Well, if she ever sat down at my table, I would give her a hydrating manicure with paraffin and finish with elegantly short nails with a high-buff shine. After a lot of side-splinting laughter, I would send her home with an arsenal of creams and emollients to combat those “picky” moments.

Dominick Strauss, Austin, Texas

As much as I would truly love to do the nails of Keanu Reeves, Rena Sofer, and Gloria Estefan, I would have to choose Tom Bächik. He is an inspiration to me and a true role model of somebody whose work I’d like to call my own. I’ve been a nail technician for three years and I’m still in the learning stages, but to be able to do his nails and have him say, “You did a good job,” would be a real confidence booster.

Donna Longo, Babylon Village, N.Y.

The New York Mets. I am a huge fan, and believe it’s important for the team to have well-groomed nails. Besides, hangnails affect the way the pitcher throws the ball.

Kim Hurd, Freehold, N.J.

I watch QVC and when they do close-ups of the QVC hosts holding a product, their nails often look terrible. Their cuticles are dry and cracked and their polish needs retouching.
