Is it common to have to change products or procedures (including changing the ratio of the product) depending on the weather? Is it possible for persp

January 1, 1998

DougSchoon: Changes in temperature affect the way all enhancement products “cure” or “set.” On warmer days, enhancements will set faster than on colder days. If the temperature of the salon is too low, the product will not set properly.

This may lead to service breakdown. The same can happen if the product sets too quickly. Temperature also affects the amount of powder your brush will pick up. Using the identical technique with warm monomer liquid will cause the brush to pick up more powder. The result is a drier-than-normal bead. Technicians should recalibrate their technique whenever the seasons change to ensure they aren’t using the product too wet or too dry.

If the nail plate is properly prepared and a high quality product is applied, no reasonable amount of perspiration will make the enhancement lift.

Why do I get lifting around the cuticle on my acrylics?

I have problems with acrylic lifting. I have very good prep and can find no problems with my application. The only thing I can come up with is maybe I put the apex in the wrong spot. I put my apex in the middle of the nail, not necessarily on the spot on the natural nail where the free edge joins the nail bed. Is this the reason why I get lifting around the cuticle? It seems if I put the apex back further (if the nails are long) then they will look a bit silly.... read more

Why do I have air bubbles when I glue on tips?

When I glue on tips there are always air bubbles that show. In addition, it takes forever for the glue to dry. I have seen some people (in the malls) put a dinky dab of glue on and it adheres immediately with no bubbles. I have tried all sorts of glue. What am I missing?
