Maisie Dunbar: Nails usually lift due to improper nail prep. First you must perform a good manicure without water (use cuticle eraser if need be), push back the cuticle, remove any nonliving tissue wit a cuticle nipper, and remove the shine of the natural nail using a 240-grit abrasive. Finally, remove the dust with a nail cleaner. When applying product, you must stay 1/16 inch away from the cuticle area. If the product comes into contact with the skin, that can cause lifting. Nail professionals must also remember to follow the manufacturer’s instructions for the correct liquid-to-powder mix ratio. An incorrect mix ration can also cause lifting. If primer is required with your system, apply just a drop in the center of the nail, because it spreads.
