Reader to reader: Do you guarantee your work?

March 1, 2002

I do not guarantee my work. I go to great lengths to be assured that I am doing my job to the very best of my abilities so that if a client breaks a nail I know that it is not because something was lacking in my workmanship. I do not include repairs in my services m order to keep prices lower. As a result, I must charge for repairs to account for the additional costs of product and labour. This way those who insist on wearing their nails too long or who need constant repairs will pay more, while those who take care of their nails will not.

I have a sign posted that lets all my clients know to check their nails before leaving the salon, as I do not warrant them for breakage. If, however, a client comes back after a day or two and I am not sure why the nail has broken or product has lifted, I fix the problem for free. The sign covers me from any problems that arise from clear evidence that the client has been biting or picking at her nails. If I believe that the client is at fault then I charge her accordingly.

I do not give a warranty of any sort. When I put a full set on I rebook the client in two weeks for a fill and give her instructions on how to care for her nails so that they won’t break. On the rare occasion that somebody has a problem, I fix it at no charge.

Jill Wright

Angels’ Salon

Bowling Green, Ky.

We guarantee our nails for two weeks — that is the usual time between fills. However, if a client demands to wear her nails too long, then she is notified that our guarantee will not apply. All of our employees are confident enough in their work to be able to give such a warranty.

I have always guaranteed my full sets. I fix anything that breaks or comes off within the first three days. I also include two free repairs with every maintenance. If a client wants a fill over another salon’s work, I cannot guarantee my work, but still give her free repairs with her services after the initial visit.
