Reader to Reader: What is your favorite nail service to do and why?

December 29, 2010

My favorite service would have to be acrylic. It gives me a creative outlet. The possibilities are limitless; there are so many colors and glitters to choose from and to do artwork with. - LAURA PARKER, Southern Stylin’, Seymour, Tenn.

All I can say is art, art, and more art! Art is an outlet for all of the colorful and interesting stuff running around in my head. Sometimes, I feel like there’s a “Big Band” playing a lot of swing in my head; I have to have a way to let it out. I’ll paint or draw just about anything and on anything. To me, doing nail art is a way of making the client and anyone who sees it just a little happier. It may sound silly, but it seems to happen. Besides music, art is one of our greatest gifts we can share with everyone. - KATHLEEN M. M. RINGWOOD-WOOD, My Nails Rock!, Poughkeepsie, N.Y.

While I really love it all, I must say pedicures are my favorite. More people are willing to be adventurous with their toes. I also enjoy giving the foot/leg massage and seeing that I can totally relax that person in my chair and make her feel better no matter what else has gone on in her day. - CLAUDIA IACOVETTO, C-C My Nails, Newcastle, Wyo.

Acrylics, of course! Because I get to express my creativity every day. - PATTY LOPEZ, Studio 24, Parral, Chihuahua, Mexico

I love doing any kind of creative “bling bling” nails: colored acrylic, glitter, mylar, clay canes, polka dots, tiger stripes. I can’t get enough of it! I have some clients that just tell me what colors they want and let me do my thing. That makes my day and they always love the nails. Sometimes I think to myself, “I can’t believe people pay me to do this.” That’s when you know you’re doing what you love. - TINA SAUBER-SPENCER, Bahama Mama’s Tanning & Nail Salon, Horton, Mich.

Mine would be pedicures. I am trained in massage therapy, so when I massage I can go into a zone and relax myself as well. You just can’t get that from any other service. - TAMMY ANDERSON, Nailz 2 Go, Baltimore

My favorite service would have to be “bling” nails: liquid-and-powder with embedded bling of any kind! I love the fact that I can do a set of bling nails and nobody else will have nails that look like them. They are unique and individual. - MARE HORAK, Nails by Mare, Smyrna, Tenn.
