Mixing different brands of base coat, polish, and top coat can sometimes cause a loss of adhesion leading to chipping, as well as other problems such as yellowing or shifting of nail polish color. Some people do mix brands anyway, but since manufacturers normally design and test products to work only with their own brand, the manufacturers cannot guarantee results if you do this. — Paul Bryson is director of research and development at OPI.

You know how sometimes we mix several glitters together and they make that magical combination that just pops, and other times the results are just so-so? What makes the difference? Why does the polish bubble on natural nails?
On some of my natural nail clients my polish tends to bubble. I clean the nail plate with acetone very well before I polish. Then I use base coat, two coats of polish, and top coat.
