The best thing is a problem-specific product. I suggest using a natural nail strengthener the client can apply at home. I prefer the ones that are applied once a day for five to six days. Then it’s removed and the program is repeated. The nails should be evaluated after about 14 days. After the nails have improved it is usually necessary to switch to a hydrating formula so the nails don’t become dry and brittle. — MaeLing Parrish is the co-owner of Nail Sensation in Columbus, Ohio, and was Nail Technician of the Year in NAILS’ 2007 AVAs.
