What is the best way to avoid developing contact dermatitis?

December 30, 2010

The best way to control exposure is to prevent prolonged and/or repeated skin contact, which are the leading causes of irritation and skin sensitivity. Keeping your work area clean and free of dust is an important first step. Never allow your skin to come in contact with dust or filings and avoid resting your arm on table towels contaminated with dust, UV gel, or monomer. Always use the proper ratio of liquid and powder (medium consistency, never wet) and change your UV bulbs often (two to three times per year) to ensure complete curing. Using the wrong mix ratio and incomplete curing of UV gels are among the leading causes of adverse skin reactions. – Doug Schoon, chief scientific advisor for CND.

You can get more information on how to avoid adverse skin reactions by downloading a free brochure from the Nail Manufacturers Council entitled “Guidelines for Controlling and Minimizing Skin Exposure to Nail Products.” Go to www.nailsmag.com/ resources/handouts.aspx.
