In season 5’s fifth Last Chance Design Lab challenge sponsored by CNDLiza Waitzman and Jenna Jupin will battle it out one-on-one to see who has a chance of staying in the competition. CND’s Jan Arnold will select her favorite look Friday and you’ll find out who will remain for at least one more week.

All Last Chance challenges are done on a single nail tip. Contestants are also asked to describe their looks. There are no other elements to this battle.

Since Jenna packed her paintbrushes after the Two Negatives Make a Positive challenge, this week’s Last Chance challenge is loosely related.

Down To Earth: Let’s go from space back down to earth. Show us your interpretation of one of the elements (earth, water, fire – not air, as that relates too closely to the BSG challenge) on a single nail tip. You can use any mediums.

Here are the looks they created:

Jenna

I picked the element fire because it describes me. I live my life every day like it would be my last day and always fight to be better. Fire is warm and dangerous!  I took inspiration from my Danish and Swedish roots, from an old saga in Nordic mythology. This dragon holds a huge treasure in its heart. For me, that treasure would be nail art, my deepest passion. I made it look like it’s exploding in fire out of the chest of the dragon. I burned a stiletto nail tip and molded it into shape, so you can actually wear it on your thumb. Fire from the mouth would be too obvious, so I made the wings and the spine out of fire with the Shellac shades Electric Orange and Banana Clips. A little glitter and duo chameleon chrome pigment were used for the body and completed the design with Swarovski elements.

 Liza

For this week’s challenge, I chose water as my inspiration. My son is an avid surfer and has been in the water since he was just a few months old. The first time he placed his little baby feet on a board, he was at the mere age of 4. His entire life revolves around surfing and it is truly therapeutic to him. I am not a surfer myself but I also take therapy in going to the beach on occasion and just watching the waves crash. I do find peace and tranquillity in watching the surfers glide through the water and having the sound of the ocean completely drown out all background noise. That sound brings me back down to earth when I have the most stressful of days. So for this week’s challenge, my inspiration comes from my son, Jacob.

Congratulations to Liza Waitzman for winning her fifth consecutive Last Chance Design Lab challenge! Liza went up against Jenna Jupin to show us nail art inspired by the elements of earth, water, or fire. CND’s Jan Arnold chose the winner.

Jan says “Liza, you are the winner again this week! Though you took a more literal approach, I appreciated the clean design, graphic storytelling, and nice use of color this week. Great job!”

This means Liza will move on to compete against the next eliminated contestant. Find out tomorrow who that will be.
