World of Wonders: The Top 3 and the Bottom 3

Challenge 5, sponsored by EzFlow, asked our Top 8 to recreate one of the Seven Wonders of the World or one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World on five actual nails. This week’s guest judge was Allie Baker of EzFlow.

In alphabetical order, the Top 3 are:

Ashton: You gave us excellent sketching, shading, and tips. The resulting piece is beautifully done! However, at this point in the competition, you need to kick it up a notch, as it’s becoming a tighter and tighter race.

Bojana: Your technique and description were easy to understand. The judges unanimously agree that the mummy in the tomb and moving pyramid were phenomenal! We suggest trying to elevate the level of precision in all of your elements.

Nixxi: The color scheme of your piece not only captures the theme, but the hearts of the judges as well. The glow pigments make this design even better! The face and feathers were cleanly done, and your storytelling was also mesmerizing this week.

The following artists can breathe again. They are in the middle of this week’s pack and are safe. Congratulations to:

Carly: The puzzle piece technique of your design was well liked, but the tonal elements divided the judges. Video is a major strength for you, so remember to come off even more confidently when speaking (get rid of “umms,” stumbling, pausing, etc.).

Kelsey: The judges praise your ambition and overall talents. However, they felt this design fell a little flat this week. Refine more of your artwork (trees, in particular), and consider doing more 3-D/4-D art.

Unfortunately, there always has to be a bottom group. The bottom 3, in alphabetical order, are:

Ashley: White water with acrylic is not easy, so thank you for creating this fabulous waterfall. A few times your work left the frame, which it cannot do in a video-focused competition. The judges did like the hot air balloon and the pop of color that brought into your work.

Emily: Your work this week was absolutely meticulous. Since you chose a monochromatic palette, the judges wish your video had been a tighter shot at different angles to see all the detail that much better.

Lorna: The judges liked your line work and scarab detail, but wish you had used more of the colored acrylic on the actual nails. The Sphinx is another element the judges feel could have been built 3-dimensionally for more points. Your videos are bomb.com, just remove the “I” in your tutorial (you don’t need it).
