Ever since she first started competing three years ago, Lynn Lammers has wanted to be number one — and this year she made it. The competition was tough for Lammers. She had to beat out competition superstars like former three-time champ Trang Nguyen (2nd place) and six-time top-five competitor John Hauk (3rd place). International competitor Catherine Wong Li Mei took fourth place, and 2006’s third place winner, Michelle Sproat, placed fifth.
For this month's cover shoot, John Hauk, top competitor, salon owner with a full book of clients, and OPI Products’ new technical advisor, helped us create a Puccini-inspired nail look.
This year’s Nail Technician of the Year finalists wowed us with their expertise and dedication to the nail industry. On the next few pages, you’ll get to meet all six of them and find out why they’re among the best in the industry has to offer.
These techs gave this year's winners a run for their money!
A couple of industry veterans took top honors in this year’s AVAs (Artists and Visionaries Awards) Nail Technician and Salon of the Year. With a number of new entries joining many familiar faces, NAILS Magazine congratulates MaeLing Parrish and M&M Nails and Wellness on winning this year’s coveted awards.
The pool of available competitions shrunk, making it more difficult for both veteran and novice competitors to exercise their skills and earn points. Yet while the opportunities to participate may have diminished, determined techs kept the competitive spirit alive.
It was like Veteran’s day in January. Tom Holcomb, Trang Nguyen, Virginia Arleo, and Elena Maltseva all claimed first place wins at the nail competitions at ISSE in Long Beach.
