Over the years, NAILS has seen a number of staff members come and go. But we’ve also seen a good number come and stay. In our 30-year history, we’ve had 5 publishers, 6 top editors, and 17 art directors (14 of which were in the first decade). Here’s a look at our current team and how long each has been onboard.

It was 25 years ago — in 1987 — that Fred Slack and his son Rick Slack decided to brand their already successful formulations and create Nail Systems, a name that was changed a few years later to NSI Nail Systems International.

Now celebrating its 30th year in business, Forsythe Cosmetics Group was founded in 1979 by husband and wife team, Buddy and Harriet Rose. Combining Buddy’s talent for sales and Harriet’s creativity, Forsythe was one of the first beauty companies to recognize and address the needs of the professional nail salon. Aspiring to fill this void, the two began producing high-quality nail lacquers formulated exclusively for professional nail technicians.

The innovative use of fiberglass in the nail industry was launched by Backscratchers Inc. in 1984.
