It was a gloomy day yesterday at the Golden Globes. Despite the drizzle, not every celeb opted for gloves like Amal Clooney, giving us a chance to see the first red carpet nails of Awards Season in all their glory. While it should go without saying that nude nails are very common on the red carpet, we were happily surprised to see glimpses of metallic and underside nail art.

Metallics always look luxe. This is one dress trend that translated to nails at last night’s Globes.

Patty Caresosa of Secrets Hair Salon in Mission Viejo, Calif., used Young Nails’ Caption in Dust Yourself Off and Let Life Unfold to create a two-toned chevron tip on Lilliana Vazquez.

Elaine Watson created a glittering gold gradient using Cuccio on nominee Frances O’Connor.

A simple stripe in OPI’s Push and Shove modernized this nude mani worn by Maria Menounos. Nail artist Fariha Ali of The House of Polish in Beverly Hills, Calif. used OPI My Vampire is Buff to complete the nail job.

Laura Carmichael sported Essie’s There’s No Place Like Chrome for a smooth metallic finish from Paintbox creative director Julie Kandalec.

Dark berry and plum shades (perhaps inspired by Color of the Year Marsala)offered contrast to lighter color gowns.

Carla Kay went dark using Red Carpet Manicure Curtain Call lacquer on Kate Beckinsale.

Tom Bachik bedecked Jennifer Aniston’s tips with a Bordeaux shade.

Steph Stone chose Chanel Provocation for Michelle Monaghan’s nails.

Patty Caresosa used Caption Am I Right Or Am I Right on Kate Mara’s nails.

Yup! Hidden treasure 🙌 #GoldenGlobes @jlo

But perhaps the biggest stunner of the Globes red carpet was JLo. The actress shined bright in a revealing metallic dress that included metallic pink tips from Tom Bachik. The big reveal came when Bachik showed us the blingy underside of her nails — a definite scene stealer!  Stay tuned for more underside nail art in the March issue of NAILS.
