What’s in a name? What’s in a logo? I like to think that my name as FingerNailFixer and the turtle girl logo bring to mind trustworthy advice and education with heart. This means my reputation is essentially tied into the logo and my name. After working so many years to establish your trust and bring you as much education as I can, it's time to recognize that I need to protect my name and logo. I take the responsibility of recommending things seriously and would not suggest something to other nail professionals that I would not personally be willing to buy. This means I don't want someone to post that their product is "FingerNailFixer approved" or "suggested" without my permission. Also, I wouldn't want to find someone using that as a business name fraudulently.

What to do for protection? The logical step seemed figuring out what I needed; therefore, I had to find a lawyer. First step there is finding a lawyer that will take you seriously. This is harder than you would think, especially in Iowa. It reminded me of a few years ago when I tried finding an agent and was laughed at, hung up on, etc. The same thing occurred in the lawyer search. I finally looked up lawyers that had good BBB ratings and specialized in Copyright and Trademark Law. This brought me to David Nelmark at Belin McCormick in Des Moines. Not only did he have the decency to reply to my email, but he gave me the impression of actually being open to discussion of my needs. I went for a consultation and was pleasantly surprised to find that not only was he willing to help me, he took me seriously. David had done some internet research into me and what I did to get an idea of what my needs would be. This was just the beginning of the amazing job he did; I have been so thrilled to have such an amazing lawyer throughout this process. I followed his advice and now a little over a year later, I can finally share with you that FingerNailFixer® is now a registered trademark!!

This means I can use the cool 'circle R' (®) symbol after my name and have the ability to protect it, which I hope also in the long run protects you!
