I cannot believe some of these ads I see in magazines and trade shows. It’s some company trying to sell me one thing or another, polish usually, but sometimes acrylic or gel. And their silly advertising department purchases a stock photo from some unknown photographer and puts computer generated finger nails (most of which are lousy) on the photo as if to say “You stupid manicurist, you’ll never know these are computerized nails, and you’ll buy our crap anyways. We have such little belief in our own products and you the industry professionals that we won’t put pictures of the real thing in our ads.”

How’s that for giving back to the industry?

I have a real problem with companies that use this type of sales tactic. I mean come on! How well does a computerized image of nail polish actually represent your product? How much respect do you hope to gain from computerized nails? I don’t want to buy a product based on a computerized image of what a gel might look like on a computerized hand. I work in the real world, on real people. I need real products. And if you want me to see and buy your product, show me what it actually looks like.

It’s as if some manufacturers can’t find a manicurist anywhere in the world that is competent enough to put nail polish on a hand model for a stinkin’ photo shoot. I am personally offended.
