How can I do a French manicure without the polish getting too thick?

May 1, 2006

My clients and students are always pleased with my French technique. I start by coating the tips of two nails with white enamel. I dip a fine-tip sable brush into acetone, dab off any excess, and clean my smile line out, much the same way you’d sculpt white polymer. Continue until all nails are finished. With this technique, the enamel is still wet so it leaves no ridge. It also allows for personalized depth of your smile line. — Jessica Ellison, Nail Program Educator at Yorkville School of Make Up and Esthetics at George Brown College in Toronto

What is causing air bubbles in my polish application?

Every time one of my clients receives a manicure, tiny bubbles form on her polished nails. It almost looks like the polish had air bubbles in it. The only thing that seems to work is having her scrub her nails before polishing. The last time she had her nails polished, the bubbles formed a strip right in the center of her thumb nail, and on the rest of her nails the bubbles were all over. I gave her a pedicure not too long ago and she didn’t get any bubbles on her toenails. It just happens on her fingernails. Can you help me solve this mystery?... read more
