There is no law that a booth renter has to have a key. When an renter agrees to the terms of a written contract it should incorporate the days and hours the space is being contracted/rented for. Then an owner legally needs to make sure that the door will be open and/or closed during those agreed hours and days. How this will be handled should be spelled out clearly prior to any agreement being finalized. Both parties have responsibilities on this issue of a key. If an owner wants to give out a key she can. It is clearly her choice on how she wants to handle this issue. — Ken Cassidy is president of Kassidy’s Salon Management Consultants (www.kassidys.com).
