Pink & White Couture: The Top 3 and the Bottom 3

Week3_top3

Challenge 3 sponsored by Entity asked our Top 10 to first form the ultimate pink-and-whites, then glam them up to make a haute couture masterpiece. Contestants then had to upload step-by-step tutorials for both looks to Nail Art Gallery.

This week’s guest judge was Yuliya Normand, Entity Global Artist. Permanent judges include CND’s Jan Arnold, NAILS NTNA season 2 winner Lavette Cephus, NAILS editor Erika Kotite, NAILS senior editor Beth Livesay, and the rest of the team at NAILS Magazine.

In alphabetical order, the top 3 are:

April: This exaggerated look is haute couture for sure. Everything from the embellishments to the shape and length is impressive. The judges appreciate the handmade details, colors, and that you pushed yourself to the extreme. Your French demo ended a bit abruptly, so watch that for next time.

Celina: Your openwork accent nail was a big hit with the judges. The photography for your demo steps is absolutely excellent. The judges appreciate your imagination and boldness and like the connection between the jewelry and the nail artwork. Making even more pieces by hand would have impressed us even more.

Sarah: Your nails are consistently clean and refined. Rose gold was a wise, on-trend choice. Your demo pics are straightforward, which we love too. Overall, very elegant.

The following techs can breathe again. They are in the middle of this week’s pack and are safe. Congratulations to:

Alecia: Your pink and white look is clean and classic, and the demo was very well done. The judges appreciate the intricacies of your haute couture look and loved seeing your sketch. The laciness of your final design was well-liked but could have been pushed that much further.

Halley: The gold and blue tones of these nails definitely work together. The judges can see your signature line work shine through in this challenge. Your demos are also really well-liked, just make sure and watch the lighting as it looks a little dim in some pictures.

Torie: Torie, those pink-and-white are all kinds of gorgeous. Your goddess design is original and inspired. We would have liked to see even more handmade materials for the haute couture look to show off even more of your skill set. But your color palette and demos are beyond beautiful.

Winnie: Your detailed demo descriptions are always applauded. The couture inspiration is definitely there (thanks for sharing your runway photos with us) and the overall look is very cool.  Our only wish is that you had built more of the embellishments yourself.

Unfortunately, there always had to be a bottom group. The bottom 3, in alphabetical order, are:

Lauren: The judges commend you for making embellishments out of gel. The bows in particular got rave reviews. While your embellishments were well done, the haute couture look wasn’t as cutting-edge as we would have liked.

Tan: The judges agree your tutorials are excellent. White on white was a brave choice, and the judges think it paid off. However, this design was just too safe. Something bolder and louder would have pushed this more while still doing Gaultier justice.

Victoria: Your French design was as creative as your inspiration. What would have made these nails stronger would have been more variation between the nails on the haute couture set. Watch the brightness on your tutorial photos as well.
