Northern Lights: The Top 2 and the Bottom 2

Challenge 7, sponsored by INM asked our Top 6 to illuminate us with cosmic-inspired nail art complete with one working light component. Contestants were allowed to use any mediums necessary on 10 nail tips to complete this challenge. We also asked them for a Nail Art Gallery tutorial. This week’s guest judge was Ashley Francois of INM.

In alphabetical order, the Top 2 are:

Jonny Diep Pham: Your design definitely made the judges bat an eye! They commend you on your use of false lashes. Your piece is full of action and fine artistry, and we’d expect nothing less. Continue to refine your demos/tutorials in respect to photography and clearly defining your steps.

Tracy Vinson: The judges loved your crystals and gel technique. Your tutorial was great as well, teaching us about accent highlighting and rub-on paint. We were torn on the houses in front though. Some of the judges felt they were distracting and took away from your overall piece.

The following techs can breathe again. They are in the middle of this week’s pack and are safe. Congratulations to:

Cate Widemire: The realism of your piece this week made the judges feel like they were out camping with you. Kudos on your technique for the night sky! The judges just wish you had created the polar bear out of nail mediums.

Tracey Lee: Overlapping skies was a cool concept, but the pieces were a bit too chunky. Your igloo is magnificent though and we would all like to stay in it.

Unfortunately, there always has to be a bottom group. The bottom 2, in alphabetical order, are:

Deanna White: This week’s piece has the same feel as last week’s and the judges know you are capable of so much more. The alien was cute, but made the piece feel disjointed from what the challenge was actually supposed to be about. Your lights also don’t show as brightly as you intended. The judges think your style is fun, but you need to be able to mix things up and show us something we’ve not seen before to wow us.

Liina Leino: The judges loved the story behind your piece. It was authentic and original. They just wished you had focused a bit more on the Northern Lights. Continue to work on refining some of the smaller pieces in your artwork, like your adorable fox.
