Chandelier Chic: Who Won and Who’s Packing Up Their Brushes

Congrats to Jessica for shining the brightest in this week’s Chandelier Chic Challenge!

Head judge Jan Arnold said: “Plexi to rock this design out with light and energy! You have demonstrated AMBITION with a capital’ A’…between the innovative gel techniques themselves and then there’s the story telling and trip to this fabulous concert! The intro and outro to the video is priceless. Your video demo checks every box from clean backdrop, clear direction, and flawless photography. Only concern…Not sure the final set looks crystal clear enough, but I love them so much anyway and all with plexi!”

Judge and Game Master Winnie Huang said: “You’re a nut. And I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!! Jessica Newsperson Mgee is my favourite newsperson. I LOVE anything that lights up, so this set totally caught my eye! I must commend you for using solely plexigel to create all the elements. The volume in your video is 500% better, well done! Your videos are structured wonderfully, I was fully engaged and felt like I learned something! Curing on foil paper is GENIUS, and I love how you bent it to shape! The only challenge I have is the matte effect, given that the challenge is all about SHINE, and CLARITY. But I see that you demonstrated that through LED lights. Amazing concept, overall! BRAVO!”

Judge and Producer Beth Livesay said: “I love how you never go literal for your challenges. You should be a newscaster. I think we all needed and appreciated the comic relief in your video – thank you! Volume is better. One cutoff though. I like that since you couldn’t use color you played with dimension instead by building the flat gel on top of each other and adding the line work. Those cubes look like ice! I love the spikes and moving pieces. I know you were stumped with this challenge at first, so congrats on pulling this off and for going with a rock n’ roll inspiration. I love the Lady Gaga references and it does remind me of Celin Ryden’s Gaga nails, but I think these two sets are different enough and are STILL chandelier-looking (sort of icicle too). Cleaning up the edges on some of the pieces would have made this overall set look a bit neater.”

Season 7 Champion Giselle Cabellero said: “Jessica, you definitely went all the way this time, I really appreciate that you found a way to create so many 3D elements using Plexigel, these nails are definitely fulfilling my fantasy nail dreams. I love that you made them interactive with the rotation and the light up features, your design was so unique and as a plus it was giving me winter wonderland vibes. Your video was so entertaining, as always of course, I really love how you have been able to find a fun and upbeat way to showcase your work while making it instructional as well. I would have love to see you creating, the parts that make up your elements, in a smaller scale for a more refined and sophisticated feel but either way I think for this challenge the size works. Overall a very grand and impactful look!”

Guest Judge Tracey Lee said: “Jessica what a jam-packed video full of inspiration and several different techniques to choose from with a single product. There were many great teaching moments here for the viewer. The Challenge Guidelines were pretty restrictive (crystal clear, strong, brilliant) and you may have pushed the limit with the Matte Top, but you certainly redeemed yourself with the other techniques and designs including using the foil paper for dimension!”

The nail artist who will be packing her paintbrushes this week is Jodie.

But this won’t be the last you hear from her, as she will be going up against the winner of last week’s Last Chance challenge, Kristen. The two will move on to CND’s Last Chance Design Lab where they all have one last chance to stay in the competition. Good luck!
