Young Nails president Greg Salo creates a subtle, pale pink glitter look for influencer Atiana De La Hoya.
About a year ago I was visiting my mom in North Carolina. She wanted to get a pedicure so I grabbed a copy of the local monthly Skirt. There was an ad for Polished Nail Bar. We went in for services, but I didn’t call ahead and tell them I was coming. (Meaning, I was incognito — not Hannah the editor of NAILS, just Hannah the girl who was taking her mom to get a pedicure.) After our services, I introduced myself to the owner and promised to come back on an “official” visit next time.
The creative juices of nail techs are truly flowing this year, as we’ve seen lots of great inventions come from beauty professionals who are working in the salon every day. Here are a few that might be worth picking up for your salon.
The much-anticipated grand opening of U.K. clothing retailer Topshop took Manhattan by storm in April, and nail techs Julia Werman, Mika Ogawa, and Maki Sakamoto (all of New York City nail salon Valley) were there to do mini-manicures on the customers. The techs polished the women’s fingernails with China Glaze’s Simply Stunning (a bronze), Recycle (gray), and Shocking Pink (hot pink).
After overcoming recent economic challenges, Unity Nails and Skin Care moved into a bigger and better space with an improved menu this April. Salon owner Jeany Perez scheduled a grand reopening to celebrate its success.
