Thirsty for Color

Twilight is everywhere — from InStyle to Entertainment Weekly to your local mall. Although the movie’s costumes are hardly likely to cause a major fashion trend, its other styles are a strange break from past Hollywood “monsters.”

Twilight is everywhere — from InStyle to Entertainment Weekly to your local mall. Although the movie’s costumes are hardly likely to cause a major fashion trend, its other styles are a strange break from past Hollywood “monsters.”

All of Twilight’s Cullen family — good vampires — are surprisingly au naturel (save for the sometimes unintentionally too-dark lipstick on star Robert Pattinson, playing Edward). Nails of the vampire family all appear to be worn short and polish-free, which is strikingly noticeable, especially on the perky Alice Cullen, who we know loves to play dress-up.

Interestingly, though, the one character sporting noticeable polish is bad vampire Victoria. Her dark polish in the above movie still is surprisingly chip-free for someone with leaf-infested hair who is supposed to look like she’s been camping out in the woods for the last few centuries (I guess she knows what’s important, though, eh?).

OK…so what does this say about the latest style? Well, it looks like only bad girls go dark. And that the goth-rocker look is almost certainly on the way out. Hot Topic stores, one of the only bastions of all things dark and gloomy is gaining growth with its licensing of Twilight products, ushering in a more light-hearted look.

And your latest tween clients — who likely wish they were Bella or Alice — may for once be digging your skin-toned shades.

Some to offer them:
