Gina Silvestro, educator for Akzéntz, offers this advice on how to get clear and crisp lines on gel nail art. “I’ve been doing this for a few months now, and people can never figure out how I get such clean lines with gel art. When using gel for art and designs, it can be very difficult to achieve fine lines because if you brush gel art onto the tacky layer of gel it often spreads.

“Then conversely if you brush gel art onto a layer of uncured gel that is thin viscosity and has a tendency to run/self level, it will run and your lines will move. So you need to find a gel that is medium viscosity and that does not run before it cures. Akzéntz’s Natural Gel is a great one for this. You can paint the design on all five nails and cure at once without any running. The lines will be much finer and crisper too.

“You brush lines with a thin gel brush right onto the uncured gel, and you’ll get precise lines for your gel art. Then when you’ve finished your design, you can cap it with a clear gel, cure, and be proud of your precise-looking design.”

1. Silvestro creates the base of her design with a glitter/gel mix and cures it.

2. She thinly applies Akzéntz Natural Clear gel, which makes a nice bedding for precise lines.

3. The black lines can then be drawn neatly onto the uncured layer.
