Paint the nail with dark blue polish. Using a size 0 brush, paint a large, bright orange teardrop with a tail that twists to the left. Add a yellow streak down the middle and at the bottom left curve of the teardrop.

Lighten your orange by mixing a little white into your orange paint. Using a liner, add fins on the tail, back, and sides in this new color. Add two sets of whiskers to each side of the face (one should be long and flowing; the other a short stub). Make a dot in white on the side of the head to create an eye.

In white, add teardrop shapes for water splashes. Using an 18/0 liner and black paint, make a thin curved line separating the head from the body. Add some lines to the fins and base of the tail. Outline the body and eye, and add a black dot inside of the white to make a pupil. Paint scales in a staggered pattern.

Using the 18/0 liner, add a blue curved line inside the water splashes. With white paint, highlight the tail, fins, and scales. Don’t forget to dot the pupil of the Golden Koi’s eye.
