Watsonville

In 2000, Watsonville, Calif., was the site of a major bacterial outbreak (Mycobacterium fortuitum) that infected at least 110 clients in a high-volume salon and left them with lesions on their legs. Many of the victims had shaved their legs recently before getting a pedicure at the salon. They had also received an oil massage on their legs afterward. Those two situations made it easier for the bacteria to penetrate the skin.
