Veteran competitor Trang Nguyen finishes first for the second year in a row on the NAILS Top 25 list. John Hauk, another former number-one finisher, comes in second. And relative newcomer Rachel Mouritsen makes a big jump from her 2006 23rd place finish to round out the top three. Just who are these top competitors?

After being named runner-up in last year’s Salon of the Year Awards, Shelly Morley, a nail technician at Salon Elite in Prescott, Ariz., was determined to take the top prize at this year’s awards. Not that she didn’t like being named one of the top three nail technicians in the country. It’s just that coming so close to being Nail Technician of the Year – one point away from winning, in fact – only fueled her desire to obtain the top spot.

Nail technician Alisha Sale’s goal for 1999 was just to make it onto the NAILS Top 25 Competitors list. “When I realized what I’d done, I got all teary-eyed,” says the 27-year-old competitor who achieved the #1 ranking in her first year of competing seriously.

There’s one name noticeably absent from NAILS’ 1998 Top 25 Competitors Ranking: Victoria Sozio. A veteran nail tech with over 50 competition wins to her credit, she had consistently placed on the Top 25 ranking in previous years.
