Modern Salon's September 2012 issue discusses why the nail business, which has grown significantly since last year, is a smart one for hair salons to be in.

With celebrities like Zooey Deschanel, Rihanna, Katy Perry, Fergi, and Gwen Stefani sporting decked out nails, nail art has become a popular demand among customers. Modern Salon advises salon owners to take advantage of this moment by staying abreast of celebrity nail trends and keeping tools like Dashing Diva's DesignFX Appliques at the ready.

Senior vice president of marketing at John Paul Mitchell Systems Robert Yates advises hair salons to start offering nail services.

Suzi Weiss-Fischman, VP of OPI agrees: "Gels are a game changer in the industry and a hige opportunity to reinvigorate salon services. This is a great time for hairdressers to begin doing nails because of the soak-off color gels. It is an easier and faster service, but needs less education."

According to Modern Salon, over the last two years, nail care has been one of the fastest growing categories in professional salons. Annual industry research reports by Professional Consultants & Resources of Plano, Texas, show that professional nail care product sales by manufacturers grew a whopping 24.5% in 2011 compared to 2010.
