This week’s challenge is sponsored by INM. We asked our Top 9 to examine their own heritage and create their own set of “International Nails” inspired by the country (or countries) of their family’s origin. The design must be on five nail tips (not on a hand), and they could use any medium (or combination of mediums) they saw fit. We’ve posted their entries on the Week 4 Challenge page.
Congratulations to Lexi Martone for winning this week’s LA-themed French twist challenge. The judges were awed by your concept and your execution. Your reinterpretation of a French manicure is modern and bold, while still showing great restraint. We love that every nail is different, yet the overall feel is cohesive. The matte finish really solidified your win. Your use of black and white allows this design to be versatile and the subtle embellishments add a hint of elegance. It also reminds us of The Getty Center, an iconic LA landmark. Several of the judges said they’d be honored to wear this design.
Challenge 3 sponsored by Orly asked our Top 10 to create a modern, Los Angeles-focused French manicure look on two hands (an actual person’s hands). They were also asked to shoot a step-by-step tutorial showing us how they created the nails.
This week’s challenge is sponsored by Orly, the company that invented the French manicure. We asked our Top 10 to create a modern, Los Angeles-focused French manicure look on two hands. We’ve posted their entries on the Week 3 Challenge page.
Congratulations to Simone Gilbert for winning this week’s nautical challenge. The judges were blown away by your ambition to tackle so many details for your design. We loved the beautiful octopus tentacle and appreciated the clever use of beads under the gel to get the suction cup effect. All of the details in the reef were perfection and we loved watching your video to see how you created everything — the coins, the jewels, the water bubble, and the urchin. You have great technique working with gel and we were thoroughly impressed.
Challenge 2 sponsored by Bio Seaweed Gel (BSG) asked our contestants to create a set of under the sea-inspired 3-D gel sculpted nails across five nail tips based on BSG’s In Too Deep fall collection. They were also asked to make a short video diary and tutorial showing us how they created the nails.
This week’s challenge is sponsored by Bio Seaweed Gel, who are launching a fall/winter 2014 color collection called In Too Deep. As a tribute to this nautical color collection, we asked our Top 11 to create a set of 3-D gel sculpted designs on five nail tips. We’ve posted their entries on the Week 2 Challenge page.
Challenge 1 sponsored by Young Nails asked our contestants to come up with their own personal caption or motto and to create a mural on 10 nail tips reflecting that caption. They were to include the text and an artistic interpretation of their caption.
This week’s challenge is sponsored by Young Nails, who recently launched a new long-lasting polish called Caption. As a tribute to this new line, we asked our Top 12 to identify their own personal motto/caption (like Young Nails’ “It’s All About You.”) and illustrate it on a mural of 10 nail tips. We’ve posted their entries on the Week 1 Challenge page.
Our judges will be looking over the entries with a fine tooth comb and scoring our top designs and our least favorite designs. We also want to know what you have to say. Vote for your favorite artist to make sure they stay in the competition. (You can vote one time per contestant each week.)
Voting will be open until Thursday, September 11 at 12 PM PST. We’ll announce the results of Week #1’s challenge (the winner and who is eliminated) on Friday, September 12.
Don’t let your favorite nail artist go home! Make sure to vote and tell all of your friends to vote too!
We asked our finalists what it meant to be named the Top 12 in NAILS Next Top Nail Artist competition. Here are their verbal and artistic responses.
