Q&A

Should clients soak off their nail enhancements every so often to "give their nails a break"?

Q.

Should clients soak off their nail enhancements every so often to "give their nails a break"?

A.

It’s a myth that liquid-and-powder or gel nail enhancements should be regularly removed. When high quality products are correctly applied, there’s no reason to remove the enhancements. In fact, this should be avoided, as removing artificial nails can be potentially damaging. Often, when clients are told they must get a fresh set, it’s because low quality products were used or the nail enhancement was improperly applied. Both can create premature service breakdown issues. However, when properly applied maintained and regularly rebalanced, artificial nails should be long-lasting, durable, and show no signs of service breakdown. If your client’s artificial nails need to be removed regularly, then check the quality of your product, as well as your preparation and application procedures. Also, be sure to instruct clients on how to properly maintain their nails between services to avoid damage. — Doug Schoon is CND’s VP of science and technology.
