Why is my French pink changing color after a few days?

January 23, 2008 | Bookmark +

One of my weekly natural nail clients always wears a French manicure. After the past few visits, the pink has turned very bright within a few days, even affecting the white that was applied over the pink. What is happening?

Answer

This usually happens when clients expose their nails to chemicals, like bleach, other cleaning products, or even some hair products and lotions. There are actually many products out there that can dull or change the color of polish.

I find it helpful to conduct a brief consultation before a service to find out ahead of time what type of industry she works in and if she does housekeeping. This information helps me make suggestions. I recommend different nail shapes for different professions, and advise people on what hair care products or lotions may be affecting their polish. I also suggest clients use gloves when cleaning with chemicals. — Kesha Hackett is owner of Lavender Nail & Make-up Studio in Oakland, Calif.

How Do I Learn Nail Art If No One Is Available to Teach Me?

I am an apprentice in a natural nail salon. Sometimes I get requests for nail art. I would love to learn how to do different nail designs, but I am a beginner. I live in Virginia and there are never nail seminars or lectures or even hands-on classes here. Do you have any suggestions on learning nail art designs when there is no one in my area to teach it? Watching videos is good but sometimes you just need hands-on.
