How do I begin offering nail art services?

February 01, 2008 | Bookmark +

I’ve recently finished a manicure and pedicure course and am interested in putting designs on nails (because my clients are asking for this). Where do I begin?

Answer

You begin offering nail art services after you’ve practiced your own original designs or replicated other artists’ work. Once you’re happy with your work, start a portfolio or display and place it in a highly visible area to catch the client’s attention. Offer complimentary nail art to each client to promote your new service. If you’re having trouble coming up with ideas or creating specific designs there are many nail artists, like myself, that enjoy sharing their techniques. Just think of the nail as a miniature canvas and let your creativity run wild... the possibilities are endless!

How can I prevent lifting when my client's hands are constantly in water?

I have a client who is in the medical field so her hands are constantly in water. She has me keep the length of her acrylic nails short. No matter what I do, she always has at least one nail that comes off, and she always has lifting and gets water under the acrylic. I prep the nails correctly, I have a cuticle bit to clean the cuticle area, and I wipe the nail with alcohol, dehydrate the nail, and prime the nail. What should I do?
