After meeting salon owner/product manufacturer Katie Cazorla at Cosmoprof last year, Samantha Hanby bought two of Cazorla’s new Painted Nail Anti-Aging Red LED Gel Lights for her Oklahoma City-based salon, Polished — one for each of her two locations. A few months later, Hanby bought several more.

The 36W LED light is designed to cure gel-polish — with presets of 30, 60, and 90 seconds — but it also contains a red light similar to those used by dermatologists and estheticians to treat the face and neck. The red light reduces wrinkles, stimulates collagen, and diminishes age spots and discoloration, according to Cazorla. In addition to curing gels, the light can be used on a longer skin-only setting for anti-aging treatments.

Right now, Hanby is including the red light treatment with the salon’s gel-manicure services at no extra charge. “Clients appreciate it because it is a free added-value service to them,” she says. She also plans to introduce the light as a standalone service using the skin-only function. “After we do some education and promotion, we’ll offer 10 minutes of Red Light therapy on each hand for $15 a session,” says Hanby.

Polished owner Samantha Hanby sent an introductory email to her clients explaining the benefits of red light therapy.

At Cazorla’s salon, The Painted Nail in Hollywood, Calif., the light is incorporated into an anti-aging hand treatment that includes an exfoliating scrub, French clay mask, hot towels, and an anti-aging serum, all applied before the hands are placed in the light for 10 minutes each.

Says Cazorla: “Clients always say, ‘my nails look beautiful, but my hands look like old-lady hands.’ That’s why I developed the light. We’re in business to make the whole hand look great.”
