An avid arts and crafts enthusiast, Debbie Wilson has dabbled with almost every creative medium. So it was only natural that as a nail student last year she began exploring acrylic and its potential uses on and off the nail. “I found acrylic a wonderful medium that can be adapted to do most anything my imagination can think up,” says Wilson, who is now the owner of Simply Debbie’s Nails in Cave Junction, Ore.
She began playing with tips and acrylic as the base of jewelry and the results are nothing short of beautiful. Using a variety of tools and techniques including colored acrylic, acrylic paint, airbrushing, stencils, nail art stickers, chains, and beads, Wilson has crafted earrings and pendants to delight her customers. “I am selling sets and pieces and have already been a featured artist on a local art walk. I’ve also done custom orders, matching an existing necklace or earrings,” she says.
All this acrylic work has benefited her salon clients as well. “Working with acrylic in an artistic way has given me greater experience to better serve my clients,” she notes.
