It’s important to pay extra attention to callus filing, because when clients go home and feel the refreshing softness of their feet, they’ll realize that the only way to repeat this wonderful sensation is to go back for another pedicure.

Loni Jensen-Preato, of Da-Lonnie’s Hair & Nail Studio in Las Vegas, is an experienced pedicurist who knows the value of good callus filing skills. She has many specially themed pedicure services that have become popular among clients, and she has been doing pedicures now for 20 years.

"Breaking down the callus with a callus softener helps a lot. I use Blue Cross Cuticle Remover but any good callus eliminator should be fine. I soak the liquid in a piece of cotton, apply it to the callus, and leave it on for 10 minutes.”

"I first use an e-file on my pedicures before finishing with a hand-held foot file. The e-file saves me a lot of time and also keeps my arm from getting tired. The bit I use is called a ‘Skin Bit,’ which looks scary but really is not. It files away the callus with very little effort and leaves a great result for your clients. I then use a soft-grit hand file to smooth out the rest of the callus. If you choose to use only a hand-held foot file, I recommend graduating your grit from the roughest to the smoothest during the service.”

“Always finish up a with a good foot scrub to remove any dead skin left on the foot. The final scrub is what gives the feet that remarkably smooth feel.”
