The May floods in Fargo, N.D., were the inspiration behind this aptly titled “Fargo Flood Waters” nail art design by Sheila Lumsden. The abstract design, with its use of colorful foil, evokes a watery feel, says Lumsden, who works at Hair Success in Moorhead, Minn. It takes about 20 minutes to complete the artwork, and Lumsden charges $15. Here’s a step- by-step on how to do it:

Step 1. Apply a brush-on foil adhesive.

Step 2. Cut out pieces of iridescent foil and place them on each nail.

Step 3. Apply a non-yellowing top coat, then, using an orangewood stick, place gold bouillon glass beads (Lumsden refers to the beads as “Nail Caviar”) and one rhinestone on each nail. Reapply top coat.
