It's Not Beauty; It's Knowledge (How One Pedicurist Charges $200 Per Pedicure)

Bastien Gonzalez has made a healthy living from pedicures. For his services, he reminds others that “a pedicure is not painting the feet. Painting the feet is beauty.” Gonzalez doesn’t do beauty; he does health and starts at the bottom. Gonzalez has garnered much international attention lately for his pedicures for the wealthy. A service with him may cost $200.

“I don’t think it’s expensive,” he says. “If I’m charging $2,000, which I do sometimes, that can be expensive. The $200 is for the knowledge; it’s not about the price, it’s about the knowledge. When you reach a certain level of clients, price doesn’t mean anything.” And when clients have their corns or foot pain removed, they’re hooked. Clients are lining up everywhere from New York City to London to Dubai for his pedicures. He recently began offering his pedicures in One & Only Resorts around the world.

“I targeted One & Only because when you have people on holiday, they are willing to be treated and listen,” says Gonzalez. And he wants them to listen, so they walk away armed with plenty of knowledge of healthy foot care. People everywhere are listening because his services have become synonymous with quality.

“It’s me helping to treat your problems. When you start talking about your work that way, people listen,” says Gonzalez, who hopes to someday open his own school for training in his methods. Gonzalez gives as many services as possible, too. He works seven days a week and 14 hours a day. “I finished my last appointment at 10 p.m. tonight,” he told NAILS one weekday evening from a hotel in London. “Tomorrow my first one is at 8 a.m.”
