With digital platforms like YouTube and the introduction of streaming apps like Periscope and Facebook Live, helpful and not-so-helpful online education is abundant. But a new digital platform called Lably is positioning itself to set the bar for digital educational content made by nail techs, for nail techs. “Lably was created to help educators and instructors continue to teach. Students want to learn from other nail artists and educators, and that’s what planted the seed for this,” says founder Jessey Kwong.

According to Kwong, Lably is a platform that offers prospective instructors the opportunity to offer education and earn additional income—Lably instructors earn a profit from each class they host. For students, the website gives hungry nail techs the chance to learn from industry elite (like NTNA alumna and this month’s cover tech Simone Gilbert), on a pay-by-class basis.

All of Lably’s classes are shared in video format. Students can browse through a gallery of content and once they find a class they are interested in, they pay for it and have indefinite access. The content is accessible via their profile so they can rewatch at their convenience.

Not-so-tech-savvy instructors have three format options to share their educational knowledge: record, edit, and upload tutorials, live-stream a class, or record live and edit later. “We work closely with our instructors to support them on their creation and teaching process,” Kwong says.

At press time, Lably has nearly 50 instructors on the roster and more than 500 students have participated since the website’s official launch in July. Kwong says Lably is actively seeking new instructors and any licensed professional can apply. For more information, visit www.mylably.com.
