Kristin Schumm of Studio Noveau in Syracuse, Ind., has a way of making her designs with a brush and a little alcohol to create a subtle marbling effect that is quite popular with her clientele. Schumm uses Shellac for these designs.
Here’s how she does it.
1. Apply base coat and cure. Apply two coats of the color you want as the background, curing after each coat. This was done with CND’s Romantique.
2. Choose two or three different colors and apply dots on all the nails, but do not cure.
3. Dip a brush into alcohol, but don’t oversaturate. Wipe the brush so it’s not completely wet. Slowly dab the brush onto the dots to create the marbled look. Clean the brush off between each nail. Cure.
4. Add a little glitter to enhance the look. Finish with top coat. Cure.
