With more than 25 years of experience, nail tech Tashina “Poochiez” Green says she knows a good brush when she uses one. To cater to nail techs who crave the right tools just like she does, she decided to launch her own line of brushes. “A brush can play a major part in our performance when providing a service,” she says. “I wanted to start my own brush line because a lot of companies sell products but don’t know anything about the day-to-day struggles of a nail tech. It was important for me to have great brushes to share with my fellow nail techs. I felt they would value my opinion because I’m just like them.”
The line of Poochiez Nails Nail Brushes includes a detail brush, a 3-D brush, a clean-up brush, a long striper brush, and #12 and #16 kolinsky acrylic brushes. The Atlanta-based nail tech believes that the right brush can improve the quality of your work because it will work with you, not against you. “You will be able to anticipate your every move, and not have to worry about messing up; that alone can cut your time down. It’s like dancing to the beat of a nice song,” she says.

Green even took to YouTube (poochieznails) to share her techniques on keeping the brushes clean because a dirty or clogged brush can cause service breakdown. “(Your brushes) can last a long time if you take care of them. You want to be able to use them over and over,” she says. “I always say, take care of your brush and it will take care of you.”
Acrylic brush care:
1. Pour a mix of acetone and monomer into a jar. Green uses a clean salt and pepper shaker to hold the solution.
2. Soak your brush bristles in the solution. Pro tip: You can poke a hole through an old buffer to hold the brush while making sure the handle does not touch the solution.
3. Remove the brush from the solution and drain the liquid. Use the tip of your fingers to smooth out the brush and pinch it into shape. Always use gloves.

4. Apply a thin coat of clear polish to the brush to mold the brush and keep the bristles flat. Smooth the tip of the brush with the tip of your fingers. Before you use the brush for a service, dip it in the solution to clean off the clear polish.
