At Tamara Spa + Wellness in Farmington Hills, Mich., two new services allow hardcore computer users to unwind and undo some of the strain technology use can place on the body. The BlackBerry Balm Hand Massage was inspired by a pedicure client who was text messaging on his BlackBerry during the entire service, recalls owner Tamara Friedman. “After his pedicure, his hands were so tired he begged us to give him a thorough hand massage,” she says. The 25-minute, $35 treatment begins with placement of a warm stone in each hand, followed by an intense hand, finger, and arm massage that uses a host of acupressure and massage techniques to alleviate some of the discomfort and tension associated with rigorous “texting” and typing on PDAs.

The Tech Neck massage was introduced after more and more clients were complaining of neck, shoulder, and back pain from spending hours a day hunched over a computer. The popular massage service begins with a steaming hot towel placed on the back to loosen muscles. This is followed by a series of stretches for the neck to encourage blood flow and deeper pressure application. The service concludes with a deep tissue massage to take away all tension from the day. The “Tech Neck” massage is 25 minutes and costs $59.50.
