Over 50 Nail Competitors at Premiere Show

The 5th Annual Premiere Beauty Show held August 21-22 in Orlando, Fla., was tough for the nail competitors. More than 50 nail competitors vied for medallions and cash prizes of up to $500. Approximately 5,200 visitors came to the two-day show. Successful nail competitors Trish Phelan and Tim Farquhar assisted at the show, and Vicki Peters was the competition coordinator.

Other events at the show included the new Nail World of Education segment. Both days, Nail World featured 16 educational sessions. All classrooms were equipped with a video monitor so that attendees could get a close-up view of the demonstrations. OPI Products had a class on how to prepare for and enter nail competitions. Terri Mayhue with Edge Nails Systems taught a class on its fibreglass system using French tips. Here are the winners of the nail competitions:

Premiere Cup---Professional Sculptured Nail: First place, Kim Morgan, Winter Haven, Fla.; second place, Sheryl Macauley, Bakersfield, Calif.; third place, Trang Nguyen, Longwood, Fla.

Flat Nail Art With Costume: First place, Sheryl Macauley; second place, Rena Rivera, Jacksonville, Fla.; third place, Christine Mack, W. Palm Beach, Fla.

Student Consumer Acrylic Tip & Overlay: First place, Chris Sjokvist, PHD Academy, Clearwater, Fla.; Jennifer Mulgreen, St. Petersburg, Fla.; third place, Beth Clark.
